Our Fish

Our fish is super fresh! We are a small, family owned company, so
our boats go out for short trips to ensure they only catch what we need. This
means we can guarantee the freshness of our fish and ensure it is sent out the
same day it comes in.

We currently pack your fresh fish into recyclable
"Chilltainers" with reusable ice packs to ensure your fish stays cold
throughout its journey. We are constantly testing new sustainable
packaging.

When orders have been packed up, they are sent via courier for overnight
delivery. You will receive an email notification with tracking details once
your order has been collected.

Yes, we deliver to rural addresses for no extra charge. However, please note, we do not cover these deliveries if delayed. Please allow an extra day for delivery. We pack rural deliveries with extra ice for the extra delivery time.

Yes, because all of our fish is sent out fresh you can safely freeze
what you don’t use initially.

All of our fish is caught under the New Zealand Quota Management System. We are a small company, so prefer to focus on just catching what we need to supply our customers. Preserving our oceans for future generations is a core value of Wildfish.

Some of the most popular fish in New Zealand include snapper, tarakihi, hoki, blue cod, and kingfish. Snapper is especially loved for its mild flavour and firm texture, making it a favourite choice.

Hoki, salmon, and snapper are among the healthiest fish to eat in New Zealand. They’re rich in omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and essential nutrients that support heart and brain health.

Fresh fish means seafood that has been caught, stored, and handled properly to maintain its natural flavour, texture, and moisture. It should have a clean, ocean-like smell, not a strong “fishy” odour.

To check if a fish is fresh, look for bright, clear eyes, shiny skin, and red or pink gills. The flesh should spring back when pressed, and it should smell like the sea, not sour or strong.

In New Zealand, popular seafood includes mussels, oysters, prawns, scallops, and crayfish. Bluff oysters are a seasonal favourite, while green-lipped mussels are famous for their rich flavour and nutritional value.

Common seafood dishes in New Zealand include fish and chips, seafood chowder, grilled snapper, garlic prawns, and mussel fritters. Many Kiwis also enjoy oysters on the half shell or smoked fish.
